Wonderfully simple dessert to make that can be packed in a lunch or carried on a hike. Rich and flaky crust really means they should be eaten outside. Plan on making them on the next family picnic.

  • Prep: 20 mins
  • Cook: 20 mins

4 Medium Apples - Peeled, cored and minced /Chopped small

1/4 cup brown sugar

3 Tbs Flour

2 tsp Cinnamon

1/4 tsp Freshly Grated Nutmeg

2 pinches Cardamom {optional}

1 pinch salt

2 tsp to 1 Tbs Lemon Juice

1/3 cup each dried Cranberries (or any small bits of dried fruit) and Chopped Almonds

the Puff Packet

1.1 lbs. Package Puff Pastry sheets

2 Tbs. Butter melted

A little Grapeseed oil to oil the cookie sheet.

1Thaw Puff Pastry as directed on box. I put it in the fridge overnight.

2Peel and mince. apples: Mine were very juicy and resulted in radius of sticky splatter that my hubby discovered by his socks.

3Add Lemon juice to the chopped apples. Stır.

4Measure the dry stuff: Brown Sugar, Flour, Spices and Salt. Stir

5Toss with apples till apples are coated. Toss in nuts and dried fruit

6Arrange a surface to roll the dough out on. It is lightly floured and really buttery; so I didn't need extra flour to roll it out with.

Pre-heat over 400F⁰

1Unwrap first Packet. Toss the dividers. Try not to tear the dough at this part, but if you do, no biggie. When you roll it out mend it at that time. Roll it out to about 18 inches wide and a bit longer.

2Using large or at least long Knife slice in fourths horizontally and Thirds vertically so you end up with equal size squares. Hopefully to make 1 dozen little packets of love.

3Use a large spoon and in the center of each square put a heaping, generous amount of apple goo.

4Take one corner and touch it to the opposite corner to make a covered triangle.

5Using a fork press the edges to seal and to decorate.

6As you complete place each packet on a slightly oiled baking sheet. I use grape seed oil and wipe up excess with a paper towel.

7Make 3 quarter inch slits on the top of each packet for gurgling vents.

8Brush or dribble melted butter lightly on each love packet.

9Bake 25 Minutes minutes. Best to check after 17 minutes to see if your oven bakes faster than mine. 25 minutes is perfect in my oven.

10Optional - Dust when hot with powdered sugar or make a light glaze.

11Eat reasonably. They remain hot inside. So be careful. Contents are like lava.

Makes 2 dozen packets of love.
